Christie Rumsey

I am a 5th generation San Diegan who focuses on Southern Californian and specifically, LOCAL San Diego Based Artists and Craftspeople as well as ethically-produced, design-related products.

For over 20 years I have helped to curate multiple galleries and retail spaces as well as hundreds of homes and businesses through local art and furniture placement.

As a Painter, I am currently sharing work in two main forms:

Stormy Southern View

Abstracted Landscapes and Seascapes- I'm feeling my way through the paintings focusing on the negative spaces between the shapes I see within the landscapes and seascapes I remember. I often will paint with the composition upside down or to the side.

4-Way Abstractions - These are the current incarnations of my life long interest in the repetition of organic shapes. Each of these paintings are intended to hang in all four directions. I am asking the viewer to see into the abstractions what they want to much like a child looks to the clouds and sees shapes or a Shaman within the walls of caves sees life and omens. I'm interested in how each person seems to find a different animal, body part, plant, face, etc… that somehow makes them think of some feeling, simple or complex narrative, perhaps a childhood memory. This fascinates me. And then they can choose to see it in all four directions. I do hope my collectors will rotate my work over time. The opportunity is really endless of what someone may find.

I like the idea of micro and macro. How someone might see veins while another person sees from space, how it might look as rivers run crawling the land.

I love working in a collaborative fashion for commission paintings and am available for installation/murals and reproductions in larger quantities.

Product Information:

Each of my original paintings are made of different materials and are listed with each piece. I usually work in mixed media relying heavily on Walnut ink, acrylic paint and charcoal. Lately I have been integrating my background in woodworking and wood printmaking to carve and paint on wood panels. These mixed media paintings generally are ready to hang and often encompass a built-in frame.

All Limited Editions are printed and stretched locally in San Diego, California with certified archival and OBA-free inks on 400gsm white poly-cotton blend matte canvas utilizing Specifically fine-art designed "Chromata White" optical brightener which offers perfect replication of original without color-shifting. No yellowing or changing of product over time. UV- protectant included. (Please don't think this means you can leave it in direct sunlight!)

The canvas is wrapped on 1.5” museum- style, FSC Certified high-quality pine stretcher bars. These bars will not warp or shrink over time and the canvas is always stapled on the back for clean looking edges which can be framed or left alone.

Painting image will be mirrored around the sides unless otherwise noted or requested. Some clients prefer a white or black edge or perhaps a color?!

I have over 8 years of professional Custom Framing Design. I would always be happy to send framed as I see fit to complete the composition. Just contact me directly.
